{Vendor Spotlight!} Maloy's Jewelry Workshop, Portland OR.

Josh and I had the pleasure of spending a few hours with our good friend and talented jeweler Shan Maloy, of Maloy's Jewelry Workshop.

He owns and operates this little establishment. Has for over 23 years! It is a quaint little boutique shop in the heart of downtown Portland. His pieces are absolutely amazing and unique. Nothing is mass produced, everything is individually designed, or restored from antiques.

The images you see below, offer a clear glimpse into his world or pearls and diamonds and precious metals.

We start off on the floor, showing neatly displayed and perfectly lit pieces. We then work our way to the "behind the scenes", showing the transition between orderly and meticulous displays... to the clutter, busyness, confusion (to a non-jeweler) that is his upstairs workshop.

There is something absolutely romantic and heart warming about a personal work space of someone involved with one of the most tedious and messy jobs in the world. The difference, the progress, we saw yesterday... from the dusty and piece-ridden work benches, to the neat displays of perfectly buffed rings and necklaces... was inspiring to experience and exciting to witness.

Any bride and groom would absolutely fall in love with his custom pieces, and with the knwledge of a piece of jewelry being made especially and specifically for the individual. So special!

~ As a side note, the large horizontal close up of the gorgeous aquamarine stone set in gold, is my favorite piece in the whole shop! Oooooohh how gorgeous it looks on me! :-)

Its the small things that I love.

My friends, and some of my couples, know that I was born in Italy and am a citizen of the world.

My parents have permanently relocated to Panama, in Central America and love it! They own property down there and visit Italy and me every so often. When they don't plan to move from their warm and sunny and "beachy" and tropical home, they send me packages full of "little stuff" that just makes my day!

Their latest package, I received this week. I had forgotten about it, since it does take a while for the mail to travel through countries. When Josh brought it up to our house from the mail box, I was SO excited!

The first thing I noticed was the packaging. The simple brown paper wrapping. Then, the postage and the stamps and the scuff marks depicting weeks of what I can only imagine to be a rough journey, from hand to hand, from Panama to Portland, OR.

Call me a dork, I won't blame you :-) But its the little things that make me smile. Knowing my family loves me, receiving items from a country I long to visit, sharing those items with my friends, and showing off how lucky I feel to have been born into a life of worldly travel, open doors and international opportunities.

Engagement Session Part 2! Amber & Ben at The Beach.

That's right!

Josh and I are documenting a whole year's worth of wedding preparations and events for Amber & Ben!

The first shoot was their Engagement Session number 1. It was fun and summery and in the heat, done at David Hill Winery, back in September 2009. Here is the link to that very blog post!

Their second Engagement Shoot was this past weekend (January 30th, 2010) in Lincoln City and Pacific Beach, on the gorgeous Oregon Coast! The weather was surprisingly warm and dry and actually sunny at times! We have many images to edit and post, but  I wanted to share one of my favorite ones thus far, here, as a sneak peek.

Oh how we love nature! And gorgeous weather! And awesome couples! We are truly lucky.
